What Made Milwaukee Famous began leaving its mark on the Austin music scene way back in 2003. The quartet released their debut album Trying to Never Catch Up in 2004, featuring a memorable, playful indie rock sound that instantly impressed critics and established a loyal fan base. In 2005 the band performed alongside Franz Ferdinand on Austin City Limits, becoming one of the few unsigned acts to ever play the celebrated PBS show. With additional showings at SXSW and a growing radio presence, What Made Milwaukee Famous signed to Barsuk Records, who released a remastered version of their debut album with four new tracks. For their next album, the band added guitarist Jason Davis (whom Kincaid had known since high school, when they were in a band together) and got production help from Chris Michaels of Sparklehorse. The finished product, What Doesn't Kill Us, then came out in early 2008. The band has shared the stage with the likes of The Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The National and Snow Patrol.
